Product Description

Advantages
- Single source responsibility
- Single, watertight unit
- Inherent corrosion resistance
- Pre-fabricated depths from 2’ to 35’
- Wide range of top options
- The ability to incorporate flumes larger than can otherwise be easily accommodated in a concrete manhole
- The ability to factory incorporate weirs, mag meters, trash screens, and other devices
- Minimal downtime
- Ease of installation
All of the packaged metering manhole pieces are glassed together. There are no joints or seals to allow for the inflow of water into the manhole. This watertight integrity can result in substantial saving on sewer bills. Additionally, TRACOM packaged metering manholes weigh approximately 1/10th of a traditional concrete manhole, minimizing the amount of manpower and machinery need to the install the unit.
Applications
- Industrial Pretreatment Compliance
- Permit Enforcement
- Wastewater Treatment Plants
- Outfall Monitoring

Types of Metering Manholes
Open‑Channel Flow Metering Manholes
These feature an integrated flume device such as a Parshall, Palmer–Bowlus, H‑type, Cut‑throat, Montana, or trapezoidal flume to measure flow in open channel environments. Flumes offer low head loss and handle solids well, making them ideal for sewer and wastewater systems.
Weir‑Based Metering Manholes
These use weirs like V‑notch or rectangular designs to measure open‑channel flow by observing the head over a plate. They are most effective in clean water applications but are less suitable where solids are present.
Closed‑Pipe (Mag‑Meter) Manholes
Designed for pressurized or piped systems, these manholes house magnetic flow meters within a fully enclosed pipe. They offer highly accurate readings in compact setups but may require isolation valves and additional access space for maintenance.
Laser‑Meter Manholes
These incorporate a laser or ultrasonic sensor mounted above a fiberglass U‑channel to provide non‑contact flow measurement. Ideal for applications requiring minimal maintenance or contact with the flow stream.
Packaged (Integrated) Metering Manholes
Factory-assembled and watertight, these units combine a flow measurement device—flume, weir, mag‑meter, or laser meter—with accessories such as covers, ladders, pipe adapters, and sample ports. Available in a variety of diameters, depths, and top styles.
Top Styles and Configurations
Metering manholes can be built with different access covers to suit the installation site: domed fiberglass tops for grassy or non-traffic areas, aluminum pedestrian hatches for sidewalks, and H‑20 traffic-rated reducers or covers for roadways.
