How it Works
The dew point is the temperature at which air becomes fully saturated with moisture—meaning it can’t hold any more water vapor, and condensation begins to form. This calculator uses the Magnus formula to estimate the dew point based on the current air temperature and relative humidity.

By plugging in those two values, the calculator determines the temperature at which the air would reach 100% relative humidity. This gives you a clear understanding of how close the environment is to forming condensation, which is critical for protecting equipment and maintaining stable environmental conditions.

Behind the scenes, the calculator converts any Fahrenheit inputs to Celsius, applies the dew point formula, and then converts the result back to Fahrenheit if needed—providing the result in both °F and °C for convenience and clarity.

By entering these values, the calculator uses a proven scientific model to estimate how close the air is to being fully saturated with water vapor—also known as the relative humidity.

How it Works
Relative humidity is calculated using the Magnus formula, which estimates the saturation vapor pressure at different temperatures. The formula compares the current vapor pressure (based on the dew point) to the maximum possible vapor pressure (based on the current temperature), and outputs a percentage.

Understanding moisture measurement starts with the right terminology. Below are commonly used terms in the world of moisture sensing and humidity control:


Relative Humidity (RH)
The amount of water vapor present in air expressed as a percentage of the maximum amount the air can hold at a given temperature. RH is temperature-dependent and commonly used in HVAC and environmental monitoring.

Absolute Humidity
The total mass of water vapor present in a given volume of air, typically expressed in grams per cubic meter (g/m³). Unlike RH, absolute humidity is not affected by temperature.

Dew Point
The temperature at which air becomes fully saturated with moisture and condensation begins to form. Dew point is a key measurement in drying, compressed air, and gas processes.

Frost Point
Similar to dew point, but refers to the temperature at which frost forms when water vapor condenses on a surface below freezing.

Wet Bulb Temperature
The lowest temperature that can be reached by evaporating water into the air. Wet bulb readings are used to assess evaporative cooling potential and in psychrometric calculations.

Dry Bulb Temperature
The regular air temperature measured by a standard thermometer. It doesn’t account for moisture content and is often used alongside wet bulb and dew point data.

Enthalpy
